McAfee is a long-time player in the antivirus industry. The company was founded in the year 1988. is also well-known for its firewall, antispam, file encryption and public key infrastructure product lines. However, it is best known for its anti-virus software and is a dominant player on the market. Security suites offer complete protection against viruses and malware, and are backed up by a $1,000,000 guarantee against identity theft.
All McAfee plans include a full feature malware scanner that can stop the entry of malware into your system and kill or quarantine any viruses that are already present. Its real-time security engine works to block malware files from downloading. It also reroutes and encrypts data to ensure that your online activity cannot be intercepted and used against you.
In our tests, McAfee repeatedly earned top scores in the AV-Test’s 0-day test and in our malware test. It also scored 100 percent in our privacy tests.
The suite’s interface is simple and clean. It’s a little difficult to access features like parental controls or identity theft protections. They’re siloed into distinct menus on the dashboard. Support is also a bit difficult. The McAfee Community Forum is currently active however Techmaster Concierge will be required to assist you with more difficult issues.
McAfee’s system scan did not remove a few junk files from our test systems. It also fails to provide a way to drag and drop a file or folder into the suite for scanning like many of its competitors do. This is a huge no-no for a security suite that costs this much.
